About Us
Mamalicious means, “a mother who can cook.”
My mother, Mrs. Evelyn Vaughan was called home to be with the Lord on April 5, 2017. Losing the matriarch of our family was painful.
Mama left Jamaica where she was born and emigrated to London, England where me and my 2 of my siblings were born. Mama left England in the 70’s and moved to the USA with my father to make a better life for our family.
Mom and Dad resided in New Rochelle, NY for 4 years. During this time, mom became a foster mother and fostered 85 children for the next 25 years. Not only did she reside in New Rochelle, but to accommodate the needs of her foster children she also lived in the neighboring towns of Mt Vernon, NY and Pelham, NY and finally Georgia where she would go home to rest.
What separated Mama Vaughan from others was her generosity and dedication to help the less fortunate. She would buy clothes for the needy and cook meals for the homeless. She loved to help those who could not help themselves. Because of her culinary skills she was ALWAYS in demand to cook meals for church members at her church. When my mom passed, I thought to myself what could I do to honor her legacy? I knew it would be food related but I was not exactly sure in what capacity.
After a lot of soul searching and talking to the Lord, a food truck was the best way to share my mother’s recipes and honor her memory. A food truck would reach more people than a brick and mortar. That was finally how Mamalicious came to be. Since Mama’s speciality dishes were Jerk and Curry, hence Mamalicious Jerk N Curry Cuisine was born. The Mamalicious Truck will be traveling all over the Chicagoland area and will be attending special events and festivals in the area. Catering will be available for Social and Professional Events. During our travels we will be helping disadvantaged children. (I know that is what Mama would want us to do.)
With Mama in mind, all menu items are named after the places she lived. Her husband Leo, my dad will have a dish named after him. We look forward to seeing you during our travels. Follow Mamalicious on FB, Instagram and Twitter for our schedule.
